Plans for the 2017 , Open Studios – Botetourt tour are now in development. In the meantime, this year’s artists are hard at work. Please like us on Facebook to see what everyone is up to this summer! https://www.facebook.com/osbotetourt/
Signs are going up and so is the temperature. In what will surely be our warmest and most beautiful tour yet, it begins this Saturday, Oct. 29, at 10AM and goes until 5PM. It will continue on Sunday at 11AM and again go until 5PM.
Be sure to marvel at all the clean studios. We artists are by nature, mostly a messy lot. Although we take great pride in having studios with everything in order, they are truly rare sights to behold. Prepare to be amazed. The artwork is great to see, too!
From whimsical sculpture to fine jewelry, with wood turning, paintings, etching and drawings between, there will be art to match the budget and taste of almost everyone.
We’re looking forward to seeing you this year!
Keep you eye out for demonstrations as you move along on the 2016 tour. Gina Louthian-Stanley, guest of Bill White, will be giving an encaustics demo on Saturday morning. Vera Dickerson, Mark Woodie and Brett LaGue have also promised to offer a bit of “how to” over the weekend. Some others may pop up over the weekend.
With some new demos in the works, the brochure and poster recently printed and a summer of artwork backing up, the 2016 tour is moving along at a brisk pace. And it’s only going to moving faster towards the date the closer we get. They’ll be studio cleaning, perhaps some baking and definitely some framing! Wood turning, too. Willie Simmons will need to have something new to discuss in his shop!

This fall, 10 Botetourt artists have joined with the Botetourt County Office of Tourism for the fourth annual self-guided driving tour of artists’ working studios. Enjoy this free event and rare opportunity to visit the artists in their studios and homes, viewing rich and varied works both completed and in progress. Have a chance to purchase original artwork and learn about the tools and materials used to create it.
Whether you are a collector, or simply curious about art, this is an opportunity to converse one-on-one with artists while enjoying the added pleasure of the beautiful fall foliage and landscape of Botetourt County. The artist’s studios are located throughout the county so look for the Open Studios logo on signs along your way.
Be sure to pick up your “passport card” at your first stop and have your card stamped at each studio you visit. Then leave the card at the last studio visited and be entered to win a $150 gift certificate towards an art purchase of your own. Visit one studio or all of them. Just enjoy the weekend, your scenic drive, and the artistic culture you’re sure to experience along the way.
